Bread for the Journey

A Covenant of Love

One of my favorite novels is The Color Purple. In it there is a scene where two young women – Celie and Nettie, who are sisters – play in a field of purple flowers and sing a pat-a-cake song to each other.  Me and you must never part. Me and you must have one heart. Ain’t no ocean, ain't no sea, keep my sister away from me. Me and you must never part. Me and you must have one heart.”

These words of promise expressed in a childhood game become a covenant of love that lasts a lifetime. Even when they are separated and when life becomes almost unbearable, these words of promise become a source of hope and strength.   read more > >

United Methodist Women

Giving Makes Mission Possible

Contributed by Alice Belton

"Jesus went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. the twelve were with him, as well as some women; Mary, called Magdeline, Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them our of their resources." (Luke 8:1-3)

United Methodist Women advocate for women, children, and youth. Giving is a way of an expression of our faith. where there is hunger, thirst, lonliness, or illness, most often women, children and youth are the first to be effected. United Methodist Women have given generaously and sacrificially in response to the need of others. Giving to mission is a commitment to proclaimging the gospel in its many forms.
