About Pastor Anthony

Education & Training

Pastor Anthony Lawrence Jenkins, Sr. is a native of Oakland, California. He was baptized at Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church in Oakland, where he attended Sunday school and Church services during his youth. He is a graduate of Skyline High School in Oakland. He was called into ministry in February, 1998, and graduated in 2002 from Trinity College & Seminary in Indiana with a BA Degree in Theology. In 2009, he graduated from the Pacific School of Religion, which is a part of Graduate Theological Union, in Berkeley, California, earning a Master of Divinity Degree.


Career

Pastor Anthony (as he likes to be called) returned to Oakland in April 2003 and began assisting Rev. Ron Swisher, the pastor of Taylor Memorial UMC. In July 2006, Bishop Warner Brown of the California/Nevada Conference appointed him the Pastor of the Calvary UMC in San Francisco, California, where he remained until 2010. The Bishop then appointed him the Pastor of The First United Methodist Church of Tracy. During his years in Tracy, he was the circuit leader of 11 Churches. Then, in 2013, he was appointed the new Pastor of Temple United Methodist Church in San Francisco. In 2014, he was appointed Circuit Leader for the San Francisco United Methodist Churches. He is the current Berkland Circuit Leader of the United Methodist Churches within the Berkeley and Oakland communities. In October 2015, he was elected Chairperson of Western Jurisdiction of BMCR (Black Methodist for Church Renewal) of the United States. In February 2017, he was elected Co-Chair of Inner Ethnic Coordinators Committee over Western Jurisdiction.

Personal Life

Pastor Anthony's greatest passion is studying the Word of God, and he readily turns to Scripture for his source of theological and life grounding. He is a dynamic and energetic preacher, who has preached at many Churches throughout the United States. He is a Pastor, that is dedicated to helping others know and experience the awesome power of God's Forgiveness, Love, and Word. Pastor Anthony, continues to counsel residents at Bay Area halfway houses, and is a certified Chaplain at the Contra Costa County Jail in Richmond, California. He is very active in his community, utilizing his God-given "evangelism abilities."

Pastor Anthony is married to Valerie Lipscomb-Jenkins, also a native of Oakland, California and together they have a blended family that is blessed with many grandchildren! Pastor Anthony's hobbies are fishing, restoring classic cars and spending time with his family!
