The
Season of Lent: A JOURNEY OF HOPE
The Season of Lent
began on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2010, and lasts for 40 days until Easter. Traditionally, Lent is a time for us to confess
our sins, commit to change, and grow closer to God.
During the Season
of Lent, Christians often practice a variety of spiritual disciplines. Some people fast for a day or more during Lent. While
this practice can mean giving up favorite foods, it can also mean abstaining from the media or other activities that may inhibit
your relationship with God.
Instead of “giving
up something” for Lent, you may choose to “add to” your spiritual life. Increasing your prayer time, committing
to a Bible study, listening to Christian music, or participating in a daily prayer walk may enhance your faith journey. You
may also commit to exercise as you care for God’s gift of your body.
Other ideas for spiritual
growth include writing, texting, or calling friends and co-workers and letting them know that you appreciate them and that
you are praying for them. Some people give up their afternoon snacks at work and give the money to their church or a special
charity. You may also choose to bring food for our Feed the Hungry Program every
Sunday so that you are continually remembering the poor.
Get creative as you
find ways to grow closer to God and your neighbors.
Have
a blessed Lenten Season!
